New Season Looms

Football

Sigerson Team will be hoping for another successful season they come into the new academic year, on the back of wins in Ryan Cup and a nail biting Sigerson success and they will be hoping to hit the ground running as they face very tough group in the league with gamesagainst UCD, Carlow and Trinity.Meanwhile there is big change at Fresher’s level for the coming season as the very successful Ross Munnelly and his management team has taken a break from Fresher A Team and we wish them all the best for the coming season in their different roles. They will be replaced this season by Brendan Gillen and his new management team. The Fresher A team will be hoping that they can go one better than they did last year as UCD proved too strong in both League and Championship. While DCU are the raining league champions at both B and C at the Fresher’s level, it is hoped to continue this success at all levels.

Ladies Football

Last year was great year for our Ladies team’s, we got the Final of the division 1 league final and got to the O’Connor Cup Final but unfortunately a strong UL outfit came out on top on both occasions. There is a new management in place for the O’Connor Cup team and will face Queens in their opening fixture of the new season. Meanwhile it was great season lastyear for our Lynch Cup as they were victorious in the Lynch Cup after a thrilling weekend of games in CIT and will now play in the Giles cup which is massive development for Ladies Football in the college.

Camogie

As the new season is about to start Ashbourne Cup Team will be looking forward to the new season, after a number of first years made strong performances on the team last year and are looking to build further. The league will be interesting to see how far the girls have come since last year. Last year DCU hosted the Ashbourne cup this coming year it be the turn of NUIG.  There is a return to league action for the Intermediate team, as they will be playing in Division 2.

Hurling

Last season the Fitzgibbon lads had a very good league campaign as they made the Semi-Final of the competition and the experience of that should leave them in good stead ahead of this year’s league campaign. The management will be hoping to get off to winning start and that they can use that as basics for success into the new year, following the addition of a number of strong Fresher hurlers.  Meanwhile the Intermediate league will hoping to have a good league campaign and would be hoped that they could give serious push at winning the Leinster section of the Intermediate league. The Fresher A team had a very positive league campaign in 2014/2015 and just came up short at the semi final stage and just like the Fitzgibbon team they will be hoping to build on this for the coming season as a new batch of fine hurlers come in. Last year saw the first  Fresher B hurling team take to the field and they had some excellent victories before they lost out in the Quarter Finals and with a similar approach this year it be hoped that the B team can push on further this year.
